Improving brakes from Spain
Hi friends. Sorry for bad english, but my english is better than my german ;)
I've got a 1990 Gs500E. I would like to improve the front brakes. I've read in your forum about radial pump, improve the disc with EBC, Lucas, Brembo or so... Now, my GS500 has EBC HH pads with metal hoses from Galfer... but with the original disc from 1990 :S Anybody with double front disc? Anybody knows what can I do in order to improve the system? Will be enough with new disc? Thanks! |
Hey Orko,
people say that the brakes of the GS500 are well built. Actually this is my opinion, too. So I wonder why you want to try to exchange your pump in order to get better results. Have you measured your brake-disk? Perhaps the abrasive is too much and that's why you are not satisfied with it. (performance won't be good enough) You should check the disk and look after any irregularities. Otherwise -> I don't have any ideas for improving. I guess, radial pumps would be nice, but I did not make any experiences on my own. But anyways: A new brake disk would be a good start if needed. Good luck then! |
Thanks for your reply, Raku! I think that you're in the correct way... the brake might be enough, but now has any kind of problem.
My brake-disk is the original from 1990! I think that is in good state, the motorbike has only 30.000 kilometers, but I'm going to check it. Also, in a few weeks I'm going to change my fork with a new one (from 2007 GS500), progressive springs and oil and i'm sure that this change will improve the brake system. I'm planning to change in this moment the steering head bearings (All Balls) and buy a repair kit from Suzuki original parts. I think that my bike will change like night and day! |
best way to improve the brake system is to change on braided steel lines

Rocky, I guess "metal hoses" means Stahlflex ;)
|
sorry , i'm not a plumber

Hahahaha, you're right, Raku, "metal hoses" means Stahlflex. I've got Galfer kit in rear and front breaks.
I've wrote to Galfer in order to obtain prices for brake-disc. |
