gs500f - need some help URGENTLY (brauchen Hilfe dringend)

I have bought GS500F K5 few months ago. I have version with 35kW (approx 48hp) and max speed was about 180-190km/h, then I bought Remus exhaust (caliber 54mm, racing).

I have a problem since exhaust instalation, my bike does not accelerate good in upper turns (good at lower), my mechanic advised my to re-jet my bike.

I do not know what to do, to buy dynojet kit or just bigger jets? I was looking this kit, but it is ONLY FOR US. MODELS!!
http://www.dynojet.com/pdf/3156.pdf <- does anyone know

second option is well known dynojet kit for EU. models, but US. have better diagram.
http://www.dynojet.com/pdf/European...i/E3128.001.pdf

My second problem is gear wheel (original is 16) and my bike comes just to 9000rpm (I will rechange it with 15)

I have few questions:
1.Is there any need to synchronize carburettor after re-jetting?
2.What is difference between re-jetting with bigger jet or dynojet kit?
3.Does anyone know difference between US. and EU. models?
4.What is your max speed?

Please help me!!!

Best Regards, David

PS. Sorry for my English, because I am comming from foreign country (Slovenia).

(Entschuldigen Sie, weil diese text in Englisch ist, ich kann nicht gut Deutsch sprechen).

Schone Grusse, David

Next bigger mainjets should solve your problem!
There is no need for a DynojetKit.

What Remus to you use? Revolution or older one? In case of Revolution you may use an #135 Main Jet on both carburators, otherwise a #132,5 (stock is #130). This is only an approximate value - it depends also on the special properties of your bike.... As I know, there is no DynoJet KIt for the 48HP Version, only for the 35HP Version. Iīve never sawn such a diagram...
Notice: Before you do anything check colours of SparkPlugs (only if they are white you have to change main Jets to bigger one). Position of Jet Needle: you have to test..... and, please, dont play with the Pilot Screw! This is only necessary if you have problems with the Carb-Slow-System.

Carb. balancing is not necessary if you donīt dismount Carbs from each other.

max. Speed: Calculated back from the rotation-meter my GS500F seems to run about 190-195km/h under best conditions (Iīve a modyfied Revolution, a slight Airbox-tuning and a 15 sprocket) - but I think you will find many threats to this "facts" in the forum........

Difference US / EU (only GS500 since 2004, older have more differences)
1. Jet needle: US 5DH91, Calif: 5DH60, EU: 5DH57-3rd (diff. is in lengh and shape)
2. Canister House (special air cleaning system for the Fuel Tank) California only
3. Ignition timing: US 5° B.T.D.C. at 1200 r/min, EU 12° at B.T.D.C. at 1200 r/min
4. some Lamps have different Watts (not necessary)

At the rest is no difference......only the drivers!

Thats all

I am using Revolution exhaust, How did you mean that I must not play with the pilot screw? Is not this necessary?
Dynojet kits are very strange, but I think that power is mesured on the rear wheel, so there could be difference (HP), what do you think?

thanks for your help!

Iīm not shure about the measuring method of Dynojet yet. As I know in the past it was always the power at the crankshaft. May be Iīll wrong.....

I havenīt said that you "must not", but you should not play with the pilot screw. You dont need to change the configuration of the pilot screw in first stage, because this influences the idle speed and fuel acceptance at all, and this system uses a completely different system (called slow-system) as the main sytem (it has its own "pilot jet"). DynoJet-Kits are normaly designed for the main-system! I know that there is a new pilot jet in the kit for the GS500F, but Iīm not sure if you can use the same screw position for the EU-Version. In the past we never needed to change the position of the screw, even with the new pilot jet..... and if we did it, we had much troubles to find a good ballance...
Let me explain, why I said this: The two pilot-screws are presetted (ballanced between both Carbs and to the main system) useing a highly sensitive measure system (it ballances the production tolerances also). These system influences mainly the range of 0 to about 1500 r/min and fuel acceptance in low range . Normaly, DynojetKits rather have no such a great influence to this low-range, that you have to chance the screw position (we did 5 bikes so, btw, donīt forget to tune up the airbox too.....)
Be carefull, you can cause such effects as "rotation needs a long time to come down to idle speed (even throttle is closed)" and so on....... The hint in the service manual (3 turns back) is only the last rescue and very inexact and is quite different to the DynoJet-manual.....

So, I think, let the screw first untouched, and turn it only when you have problems with idle speed or fuel acceptance in lower range. When you do anything with the screws - do exactly the same to both carburators (and make a notice what you have done).
Hope, I could help to prevent you from the same mistake we did first, and which takes us a long time (and much coffee) to get back a smooth running engine.....

Ok. I think that I will buy just front gear wheel (15) and main jets (135, like you said) so in this case I do not need to tune airbox? (how did you mean - tune airbox??).
We have BIG problem (in Slovenia) with Suzuki parts (there is no main jets and chain wheel's!! - only stock parts) so I would like to know dimension of main jets (coil and length) if I can buy them from any other bike. How much does chain wheel and mainjet cost in your conutry, can I buy them here (internet)?
How many (approx.) horsepower will have my bike with this parts (15 - gearwheel, 135 mainjets and Remus 153182 853004). Can I expect max. speed over 200km/h?

thanks!

PS. If you will come to Slovenia anytime, send me email and we'll go to coffe

Remus Racing Exhausts have much less resistance against the blow through, thatīs the reason you need a bigger jet. But you have also to increase the blow through of the airbox/airfilter! The best way to check this is to mount a K&N-Racingfilter in first stage. If this is not enough you may modify the airbox to mount a bigger filter with more blow through. Drilling holes in the airbox would help only a short time - till the engine will have a "sudden death" in reason of dirt air....
Notice: #135 is only a standard value, may be a little bit smaller or bigger one is better for you - this depends also on the special characteristics of your engine and not only from the exhaust. I expect that you have to test different types (in this range), till youīll find the best combination........(tune up bikes is not a quickie  )
I donīt know where you live in Slovenia, but if you are near to Maribor and the Austrian border you can buy these things at "Motorcycle KLEIN" ( autohaus@klein.cc ) in Leibnitz/Austria, but please phone or write mail first before you travel there..... Otherwise you can buy a K&N-Filter by Detlev Louis.
For exact prices of stock parts you can ask at sued@2-radboerse.at in Vienna or KLEIN (Iīve never bougt a jet, because my coussin is owner of a Suzuki-Endurance-Racingteam and so I donīt pay anything for such parts -very usefull... )

In Austria you can have both sprockets (16 and 15) as stock parts.

I think, all jets of newer Mikuni-Bike-Carbs should fit... exact dimension of the jet I can send you on weekend, when Iīm at home...

Speed: With this modifikations you may reach 190-195km/h under best conditions. Donīt expect more than 51-52HP! If you want to go more then 200km/h with the GS, than you have to do a strange motortuning, like increase compression ratio, bigger pistons, bigger valves, and, and, and..... This only makes sense if you are racer or enthusiast or both.... otherwise it makes really more sense to by a GSX600 or more...... :D

thanks for all your help, well Maribor is far away (about 300km) I am on the left side (near ljubljana) so nearest place for me is Villach do you know any shop near Villach? (I would like to order at internet).

So, please tell me exact dimensions of jets when you'll be at home.

thanks!

AmigaHarry 24.11.2005 16:50:06

Sorry, donīt know any shop in this corner. I remember, that there is one in Klagenfurt. If I find out, Iīll tell it.. To Klagenfurt you can go via LOIBL or SEEBERG (Jezerske(?)) easily, I think. At 2-RadBoerse in Vienna you can buy Suzuki Spare Parts via internet...
Another way could be to drill the jets (nozzle) yourself, starting with #130 and rising up.......could it? (there are drillers in 0,5 steps)

AmigaHarry 25.11.2005 18:29:39

Here is the dimension of the main jet:

Diameters: Fine-thread: M5, Head: 6mm
thread length: approx. 3.5mm, length over all 9mm, head hight: 4mm
Length: over all 9mm

Just have a look also to 4-Stroke Suzuki-Marine engines with Carbs. They should also have Mikuni Carbs. It seems that also jets of Keihin Carbs could fit....(even if they are from 2-stroke engines(!)... They have all the same nozzle-producer. Best way is to compare with your stock jet at the shop!

btw.: I am often in Slovenia and Croatia - my wife is a "koroske slovenske" (hope I spelled it right. :? .) and she speaks slovenske as second native language. So, if you will send a private mail we would visite you sometimes in sommer (and vice versa to you...)

25.11.2005 19:13:21

Ok, deal!! Well, you spelled in plural, your wife is ("koroska slovenka") but very good, because our language is very hard to learn, Ich spreche deutsch ein bischen, weil wir 4 jahre in unsere schüle habe aber mein grosse problem ist grammatik und wörterbuch  , ok.. don't laught at me  , well if you have MSN messenger please add me, or give me your email and I'll add you. my adress is: davidlangus@hotmail.com

have a nice day :)
